Solar screen shades
Cut glare and heat while keeping the view of the water, pool or yard. Made for lanais, sunrooms and big west-facing glass.
A fine open weave lets you see out while cutting the sun.
Takes the harsh brightness off big glass without going dark.
Stops a large share of solar heat before it reaches the room.
Reduces the UV that fades floors, rugs and upholstery.
Built for Florida glass
Solar screen fabric is a woven mesh with a measured openness, usually 1%, 3%, 5% or 10%. A lower number blocks more sun and gives more privacy; a higher number keeps more of the view. On a wall of sliders facing the pool or the water, a 3% or 5% screen lets you keep the view through the afternoon without the room turning into a greenhouse. We bring samples so you can hold them up to your own glass and see the difference.
Where we install them
Living rooms and family rooms with sliding doors, lanais and sunrooms, kitchens with a west window, home offices with screen glare, and condo units with floor-to-ceiling glass. Solar screens are also the usual choice for large openings where several shades run side by side, and they are easy to motorize so a whole wall moves together.
Privacy at night
Solar screens work the opposite way at night. With lights on inside, the view is in, not out. If the room needs nighttime privacy, pair the screen with a light filtering or blackout shade in a dual headrail, or add drapery.
Questions
Solar screen shades: what people ask
What openness should I choose?
For most rooms with a view, 3% or 5% is the sweet spot. Choose 1% for the strongest glare control, 10% to keep the clearest view with lighter sun control.
Do solar screens give privacy?
During the day, yes, people outside see very little. At night with the lights on, the view reverses, so bedrooms usually need a second shade.
Can several shades be motorized together?
Yes. A wall of solar shades can run from one remote or a schedule, so all of them move at once.
